The Onix armchair stands out with its contemporary design, upholstered seat dressed in modern felt, and thin carbon steel structure and feet. Whether used alone or in pairs, this armchair adds a touch of sophistication to any space. It breaks the sobriety of any ambiance and adds charm and personalization. Its unique properties and strengths lie in its sleek lines, modern upholstery, and the use of carbon steel, which ensures durability and longevity. The Onix armchair not only enhances the visual appeal of a room but also provides comfort and functionality.
The production process of the Onix armchair is akin to creating an origami masterpiece. The designer meticulously cuts, folds, and glues paper to achieve the perfect ergonomic and aesthetic balance. A 3D model is also created on a computer before undergoing a 1:1 origami test using hard paper. Once the design is finalized, the armchair is produced using carbon steel, resulting in a full-scale, high-quality piece.
In the Stones Collection, the Onix armchair offers two options: the Naked option, where the metallic structure is fully visible, showcasing the intricate handcrafted work of folds and creases, and the Full option, where the chair is entirely upholstered, providing a more cozy finish. The dimensions of the armchair are 900 x 620 x 900.
Besides its aesthetic appeal, the Onix armchair boasts high durability due to its carbon steel construction. It also offers a range of unique color options, such as copper, champagne, and gold, which are currently in vogue in the design world.
The Onix armchair project began in March 2014 in São Paulo and was completed in August 2018. It was exhibited at the High Design Mobile and Design Exposition in São Paulo in August 2018, garnering attention and admiration from design enthusiasts.
The creation of the Onix armchair was driven by a passion for design and a desire to stand out in the market. The designer faced numerous challenges during the prototyping phase, experimenting with various materials such as wood, plastic, and aluminum. After years of perseverance, the final product emerged: a thin carbon steel armchair, laser cut, sanded, folded with precision, welded, polished, and painted. The dream became a reality, and a whole line of furniture was born.
Katty Kaitazoff holds the copyrights to the Onix armchair, which is a testament to her creativity and innovation. The design has also been recognized with the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2019. This award acknowledges the outstanding and ingenious qualities of the design, incorporating best practices in art, science, design, and technology.
